How does Ritual work?

You’ll get started with Ritual by filling out a survey about your relationship on the company’s website. The survey asks you to rate statements about your relationship on a scale of 1-7, from not true at all to very true. Example prompts include “Sometimes my partner doesn’t understand me,” and “The way we fight is really taking a toll on our relationship.”

After completing the survey, you are prompted to purchase a plan that fits your needs. Once a plan has been purchased, you are matched with a therapist and can schedule your first session immediately.

During the initial session, you’ll discuss your relationship issues with a trained expert. And after the session concludes, you’ll receive a customized therapy plan based on this initial conversation. Most plans contain relationship goals known as “Pathways.” The length of your therapy will depend on how many Pathways you receive. On average, clients spend 1-2 months on each pathway. Once you receive your plan, you can set up appointment times that suit your schedule.

Specializations:

Ritual focuses on helping couples and individuals with relationship issues, specifically romantic relationships. While it doesn’t offer specializations for anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues, you can still discuss these issues with your therapist during your sessions.

Ideal For:

Ritual is ideal for individuals and couples looking to improve their relationships. Regular remote sessions are supplemented with weekly activities, so it’s a great option for anyone looking for tools to strengthen their relationship outside of therapy as well. The weekly activities are optional, but typically only take up about 10 minutes of your day, making Ritual an excellent choice for those with busy schedules.

It’s also great for anyone who’s looking for a non-traditional yet effective approach to couples therapy. While Ritual includes elements of this, it’s unique in also offering the possibility of individual, relationship-focused work in shorter sessions (20-40 minutes).

Pricing & Special Offers

Ritual offers a 14-day money-back guarantee. If you’d like to cancel your subscription, you can do so on the account page. You’ll need to cancel before your next monthly billing date in order not to be charged.

Extra Value

Ritual sets itself apart from other online therapy companies by solely focusing on helping people resolve their relationship issues. Additionally, it differs from traditional couple’s counseling by allowing you to complete your sessions with or without your partner.

While most online therapy platforms offer weekly therapy sessions, Ritual takes things a step further by providing you with weekly content, activities, and tasks to help you strengthen your relationship from all angles. The company also has you complete a survey before you’re matched with a therapist. This helps Ritual create a personalized treatment plan with clear goals (called Pathways). Each Pathway lasts as long as necessary for you to feel like you’ve made enough progress.

With Ritual, you also have the option to chat with your therapist via live chat, phone, or video call. In addition, there’s a Ritual app that you can use to speak to your therapist or complete your weekly activities. Most Ritual experts hold MSWs or PhDs, so you can rest assured knowing you’ll be working with a trained professional.

Bottom Line

Ritual is an excellent option for anyone who is looking to tackle relationship issues in a unique way. In addition to regular therapy sessions, Ritual goes the extra mile by providing its patients with weekly assignments and activities that can help them grow their relationships even further.

Ritual also offers an incredibly relaxed format when it comes to therapy, as each session is only about 20-40 minutes long. Additionally, you have the option to conduct your session alone or with your partner depending on the plan you choose. While the company doesn’t accept insurance, its plans are fairly affordable compared to the industry standard. And the free weekly resources can really make the cost worth it, as you’re given a variety of avenues to work on your relationship.
