Intro

ReGain is an online relationship therapy platform for couples and individuals. It offers people facing relationship difficulties a convenient and affordable way to access help from a licensed therapist without having to leave their home.

ReGain has an impressive matching process to get you connected with a suitable therapist. All therapists are licensed and highly experienced, with an interest and expertise in couples counseling.

Pros

  • Get matched to a licensed online couples therapist quickly
  • Message anytime, plus live chat, phone and video sessions
  • Fill out a detailed questionnaire to assess your personal needs
  • Meet or talk with your therapist individually or as a couple

Cons

  • The platform does not regulate counselor services
  • No live chat for assistance on the site
  • Therapists are not directly hired by the platform

How does ReGain work?

When you first sign up to the platform, you’re asked to complete a thorough questionnaire to communicate what challenges you’re facing and the kind of therapist you’d like to see.

You’ll be asked to share the following:

- The benefits you hope to achieve from therapy, e.g., to ‘resolve conflicts and disagreements’ or to ‘understand myself better’

- Your preference for individual or couples therapy

- Your preference for a therapist, e.g., male, female, older, younger, Christian, non-religious

- Additional focus areas for your sessions, e.g., control issues or forgiveness

This information is used to match you with a therapist whose skills and background are aligned with your preferences, goals, and core issues.

But don’t worry, your match isn’t set in stone. Once matched, if your therapist isn’t the right fit, you can simply request a new one. The platform has over 8000 therapists with a variety of expertise, so you’re sure to find someone you connect with.

There are several ways to communicate with your therapist:

-Phone

-Video

-Text messages

-Scheduled weekly live sessions (30-45 min) to chat on the phone, video, or real-time chat

You can access the platform around the clock from a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

As a couple, you’ll share a joint account on the platform so that all parties can view written information. You can, however, schedule individual live sessions if you’d like to. If you don’t want to sign up for therapy with your partner from the start of your subscription, you can invite them to join at a later date by clicking “Invite Partner”. You can even have 3-way calls if your partner lives in a separate location.

Once your membership is set up, you’ll get matched to a therapist who can view all of the information you provided. Your therapist will then start communicating with you online for therapy to begin.

You’ll be allocated a “room” with your therapist which is open 24/7. Here you can leave messages, ask questions, and talk about anything that’s bothering you, which your therapist will read and reply to. The conversations are not in real-time, and your therapist’s response time will depend on their availability and how you typically like to communicate. You may prefer shorter, more regular interactions or longer, more detailed ones.

If you or a person you know is in danger of harm, call 1-800-273-8255 in the US or your national mental health hotline. If you are unsure of whom to contact, call the police (911 in the US, 112 in Europe).

Specializations

Therapists are not employed by ReGain, and the site does not oversee them professionally. So you work with the independent providers directly. Each therapist lists their specialties, training, background, and interests on their profile, so everything is clear and transparent from the start.

All therapists are qualified and certified by their state’s professional board, have a master’s or doctoral degree in their field, and have at least three years of experience and 1000 hours of practical experience—so you know you’re in good hands.

Therapists with ReGain can be:

-Accredited psychologists (PhD. PsyD)

-Licensed professional therapists (LPC or LPCC)

-Licensed clinical social workers (LCSW/LMSW)

-Licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT)

UK-based counselors are also required to be registered, trained, and experienced Practitioner Psychologists, Accredited Counselors, or hold a similar, recognized professional certification. UK-based counselors also need an academic degree and at least three years of experience.

A big plus for the platform is that therapists have an interest and expertise in relationship therapy and work with both couples and individuals. The therapist’s experience working with specific issues, such as depression, anxiety, grief, or anger management, is listed on their profile too.

You can access many therapist profiles through the reviews page on the platform, where they often give insights into their personality and the therapeutic approaches they typically practice, such as person-centered therapy, behavior-focused therapy, or mindfulness.

Ideal For

ReGain connects individuals and couples with licensed therapists who can provide them with convenient and affordable support for their relationship issues.

The onboarding questionnaire is thorough and is a great strength of this platform. There are many therapists with a diverse range of expertise, so whatever issues you’re dealing with, you can be sure there will be a therapist who is well-equipped to help you.

Pricing and special offers

Couples share a joint account, and the cost of ReGain membership ranges a (very reasonable) $60-$90 a week. This is charged every 4 weeks via credit card or PayPal.

The subscription period starts when you’re matched with a therapist, which can take a couple of hours or a few days. In addition to the live sessions, you can message at any time plus video, and audio messaging.

If you’re ready to end therapy or have decided it’s not the right time, canceling your membership is quick and simple and can be done in a few clicks via the platform.

Extra value

What sets ReGain apart from other brands is:

- All therapists specialize in couples therapy

- There are over 8000 therapists

- You can access individual and couples therapy from a joint account

- You can invite your partner to therapy when you start or later on in the process

Customer Support

Signing up is a completely automated process, and there’s no live chat option, so you can’t ask questions in the moment or troubleshoot before signing up. However, there is an extensive FAQ section that answers the important questions in depth and a contact page with its email address: contact@ReGain.us

What do customers say about ReGain?

Once matched with a therapist, you’re able to leave a review on the platform and read feedback from other clients on the website.

There are abundant positive reviews for ReGain therapists online, and here are a few:

“So far this has been very helpful and my husband and I agree, we should have looked into it a while ago. Thanks!”

“Wonderful experience, learned so much about myself and techniques that I can apply to live a healthier life. Our therapist was amazing, listened to us and really helped us dig deep and see the root.”

“Excellent. Empathetic but professional and goal-oriented. Works with you to prioritize your needs.”

Bottom Line

We all encounter relationship issues from time to time, and sometimes we need a little help to work things out.

ReGain is a convenient and affordable couples therapy platform, which uses a thorough assessment to match individuals and couples with a therapist that suits their needs and preferences.

All therapists are licensed practitioners with a range of expertise. But what unites them is their interest and experience in working with couples and individuals.
